RELEASE: Rep. Sandstede thanks Gov. Walz for visiting Hibbing and for proposing historic education investments

Thursday, March 7, 2019

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - This week, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan have embarked upon a four-day statewide tour to highlight their education proposal as part of their “Budget for One Minnesota.” One of the tour stops for Governor Walz was Hibbing High School, which he visited Thursday morning.

State Rep. Julie Sandstede (DFL – Hibbing) issued the following statement:

“As a Hibbing alum, I’m proud of our high school both regarding the gorgeous physical structure as well as the tradition of academic excellence we’ve built. I’m grateful that Governor Walz included HHS in his education tour and got to speak with students, teachers and staff.

“I’m excited by the historic investments Governor Walz is proposing for education, to truly make Minnesota the ‘education state.’ Without these investments, our world-class schools could be in dire risk of slipping in quality. I appreciate the investments he has proposed for full service community schools, early childhood programming, addressing uncompensated special education costs, and enhanced school safety. The next generation of Minnesotans simply won’t have the same opportunities kids have now if they don’t have the opportunities to achieve in the classroom.”
