Starting this Friday, it will be an exciting weekend in St. Paul as the celebration of the State Capitol’s Grand Opening gets underway. Following almost four years of work on an intricate restoration, the State Capitol reopened earlier this year with the same glory it held when it originally opened in 1905. Simply, the results are breathtaking. Artwork which had deteriorated for several decades is now as vibrant as ever. Space available to the public has nearly doubled. Energy efficiency has been improved, technology upgrades have been implemented, and accessibility has been enhanced to standards of the present day.
Please make plans to visit during the three day celebration from August 11-13. There will be public tours, live music, educational discussions, a Kids Zone, fireworks, and much more. Nearly all of the events are free to attend. For more information, visit https://mn.gov/admin/capitol-
Homestead Credit and Renter’s Refund
Next week on August 15 is the deadline to submit your application for the Homestead Credit Refund (for homeowners) and Renter’s Property Tax Refund. Many otherwise eligible Minnesotans miss out on either of these refunds simply because they forget to file. The amount of your refund is based on the amount of your property taxes (or rent) relative to your income. If you’re a renter, you will need to include a Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP) with your application.
For more information, please visit the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s website.
I hope you and your family are continuing to enjoy your summer. Please continue to stay in touch.
