Capitol Newsletter from Rep. John Poston

Friday, April 22, 2022

Dear Neighbors,

The legislature returned from its Easter/Passover break this week for what’s sure to be a busy final month of the 2022 legislative session. I hope that you had a blessed holiday and were able to spend time with family, friends, and loved ones.

Starting next week, the House Democrat majority will begin bringing their supplemental budget bills to the House floor for votes before the entire legislative body. I plan to give you details of these bills as they come to the floor for votes.

In the meantime, I can share with you that House Democrats are looking to dramatically grow the size of government and spend most of the state’s $9 billion+ budget surplus.

Across their supplemental budget proposal, Democrats are looking to spend more than $21 for every $1 in tax cuts. This is unacceptable as the surplus should be returned to you—the hard-working taxpayers of Minnesota.

Inflation is impacting every Minnesota family — everywhere you go, you're seeing it with rising grocery prices, gas prices, home heating/energy bills, and more. Despite this, Democrats are still pushing policies that would make people's lives more expensive like the Unemployment Insurance tax hikes that hit every employer in Minnesota, a new payroll tax, energy regulations that drive up gas and home heating prices, and more.

That’s what makes their proposals even more out of touch with what Minnesotans want.

Stay tuned for more on these issues and more as session comes to its conclusion in the weeks ahead.
