It’s hard to believe that summer is over as the leaves have started to change color and school is back in session.
As we begin a new school year, I want to take a moment to thank teachers, school staff, and parents who dedicate so much of their time to educating the next generation. Thank you for all you do in our community and I wish you all a wonderful, safe and happy school year!
This Sunday, families from across the state will rally at the state capitol in St. Paul to advocate for protecting our children from proposals that would mandate that Minnesota schools teach comprehensive sex education curriculum developed in coordination with Planned Parenthood
Details for the event are as follows:
When: Sunday, Sept. 22 | 1:30 – 3:30 PM, Rain or Shine
Where: MN State Capitol Steps, St. Paul (unless rain than in the rotunda)
I encourage you to attend.
This issue arose last session when Democrats authored a bill, House File 1414, that would essentially put Planned Parenthood in charge of sex education curriculum being taught to elementary school children.
The bill contradicts current law that emphasizes abstinence. The curriculum would also include material that can best be described as pornographic. Among the material Planned Parenthood endorses is the book “It’s Perfectly Normal,” including explicit images that our schools should not be putting in front of our children.
Thankfully, HF 1414 stalled last session and did not become law. Nevertheless, I’m sure that Planned Parenthood and House Democrats will continue to push for this radical sex education curriculum.
I will continue to keep folks updated on this issue as we begin making preparations for the coming legislative session. Until then, please be sure to contact me if you have any questions or concerns related to state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-4293 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a great weekend,
