Capitol Newsletter from Rep. John Poston

Friday, May 10, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

I would like to wish a happy mother’s day to all mothers as we celebrate them this weekend. We appreciate and are extremely grateful for everything mothers do to strengthen our families.

There’s not a lot of “new” news to share today as the House wrapped up all of its omnibus finance bills last week. Since then, the Senate and House have been meeting in conference committees to hash out differences in the two chambers’ finance bills. While this has been happening, high-level negotiations between the House Speaker, Senate Majority Leader, and Governor Walz have been taking place behind closed doors.

To date, neither the Governor nor the House has made any offer to drop their proposed tax increases. With the Senate holding firm on their “no new taxes” stance, it remains to be seen if we’ll get out of St. Paul on time.

Until then, I’ll make sure to keep you updated as more news emerges in the coming week. Please be sure to reach out to me to share your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-5356 or via email at rep.john.poston@house.mn.

Have a good weekend,

John
