Capitol Newsletter from Rep. John Poston

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you have been able to enjoy the summer so far and spend time in the great outdoors. Unfortunately, as is often the case, warm summer weather can bring severe storms.

A few weeks ago, storms ravaged a large portion of central and north central Minnesota causing widespread damage. Due to the damage caused from these storms, Governor Dayton declared a state of emergency in 36 counties. Cass County was included in the declaration.

Farmers in Cass County that experienced damage from these storms are encouraged to take advantage of the Disaster Recovery Loan Program through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). According to the Department of Agriculture, zero-percent loans will be available to assist farmers with flood-related clean-up, repair, and replacement costs that are not covered by insurance. The program is administered through the Minnesota Rural Finance Authority, which is funded by the legislature.

If you have any questions regarding eligibility or the program itself, I urge you to contact the Rural Finance Authority for more information by calling 651-201-6004, or by visiting www.mda.state.mn.us/agfinance.

Additionally, both Browerville and Eagle Bend were recently awarded loans and grants from the Public Facilities Authority (PFA) for water infrastructure projects. The interest rates on these loans are low and will save taxpayers money.

Finally, due to state Campaign Finance Board rules, this will be my last email update until November. Nevertheless, I urge you to continue to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-4293 or via email at rep.john.poston@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

John
