Capitol Newsletter-New Laws

Monday, July 10, 2017

Greetings,

I hope you had a relaxing Independence Day and have been enjoying the summer! I just have a few updates to share with you regarding the implementation of legislation from the 2017 Session:

On July 1st, multiple new laws were put into effect, including a multi-billion dollar investment in our roads and bridges, and increased education funding for our students and schools. Click here for more details.

Insurance Costs:

During the first month of Session, the Legislature provided a 25% health insurance premium rebate for eligible policyholders experiencing skyrocketing insurance costs. From January to April, more than 105,000 Minnesotans successfully enrolled into the program.

The Legislature also made some significant and long-term reforms to stabilize the state’s health insurance market, including: allowing member-owned organizations-such as farm cooperatives-to provide health insurance to its members, protecting consumers who buy insurance on the private market from bearing the cost of high risk individuals, and increasing options for small businesses and their employees.
