Update from the Capitol

Monday, February 6, 2017

Dear Neighbor,

I had the pleasure of meeting with many constituents last week who made the journey to St. Paul to talk about legislative issues that are important to them. I met with Pat Lunemann from Clarissa, MN, former President of the Minnesota Milk Producers Association and current Chair of AgriGrowth. I also met with Jerel Nelsen: City Administrator of Staples; Sheldon Monson: Wadena County Commissioner; Wade Miller, Bruce Uselman, and Deb Wiese: Wadena City Council Members; Brad Swenson: Wadena City Administrator; and Cori Reynolds with Brainerd Public Schools.

I also met with Caitlin Savage from Wadena. She is involved with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). FCCLA is a career and technical student organization.

Health Insurance Update and Clarification:

Since the passage of Senate File 1 last week, there have been some developments worth sharing:

  • There is a one week enrollment extension from February 1st – February 8th
  • Medica, which is only available through MNsure, is below its enrollment cap and will accept new enrollees from January 31st -February 8th
  • If you qualify for the 25% premium reduction, no action is required on your end, you will receive it automatically. (In order to qualify, you must have bought the plan on the individual market and not received a federal health insurance tax credit).

If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding any issue related to state government, please feel free to contact me at either 651-296-4293, or rep.john.poston@house.mn.

Sincerely,

John
