RELEASE: House Capital Investment Committee visits Duluth

Tuesday, September 26, 2023

DULUTH, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee continued its statewide fall tour, traveling to Duluth to visit sites and hear presentations on proposed projects for potential inclusion in the 2024 Capital Investment Bill. The bill includes investments in public assets including colleges and universities, parks and trails, roads and bridges, clean water infrastructure, economic development opportunities, and more.

“The Capital Investment bill is about more than concrete and rebar. It’s about creating jobs, stimulating economic opportunities, and shaping the future of communities so residents have the strong quality of life they deserve,” Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) said. “I’m grateful the committee took the time to learn about the infrastructure needs throughout our community, and I’m hopeful this coming spring, we can work collaboratively to pass a robust package of infrastructure improvements in Duluth and across our state.”

Lawmakers toured the Duluth Airport, the Duluth Public Library and proposed multipurpose regional community services center, the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, the Great Lakes Aquarium, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Before departing Duluth tomorrow, the committee plans to visit the St. Louis County Depot.

Today was the first of a three-day swing through northeast Minnesota. Wednesday, the committee will stop in communities including Two Harbors, Tower, Ely, Silver Bay, Biwabik, and Virgina. Thursday, the week concludes with visits to Hibbing and Grand Rapids.

Later this fall, the committee will tour southwest and central Minnesota, southeast Minnesota, and the Twin Cities metro area.
