RELEASE: Rep. Olson statement on new Minnesota Budget Forecast

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today Minnesota Management and Budget released a new economic forecast. According to MMB, Minnesota has a projected budget surplus of $17.6 billion.

Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth), the incoming chair of the House Committee on Ways and Means, issued the following statement:

“Our state budget isn’t just a fiscal document; it’s a moral document that should reflect the values Minnesotans share, while addressing the challenges they’re facing. Despite the surplus, Minnesotans are still struggling with high costs for expenses like food, gas, health care, and housing, and many people are still concerned about the future. I look forward to working right away this January to help ensure lawmakers take full advantage of this historic opportunity to boldly invest in workers, families, and communities.

“House DFLers are committed to putting workers and families first and will deliver key investments to make Minnesota a state that works better for everyone.”
