RELEASE: Rep. Liz Olson sworn-in for second term in Minn. House

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

ST. PAUL, Minn, - Tuesday, state Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) was sworn in for her second term representing District 7B in the Minnesota House. Rep. Olson, serving the western portion of Duluth, was excited to get to work delivering results for both the state and her community.

“This session provides us with a tremendous opportunity to truly collaborate and move our state forward from a foundation of the shared values we all hold dear,” Rep. Olson said. “Minnesotans care about one another, and we want to see our neighbors succeed and our communities thrive. Working together, we can make sure this is the case in every corner of our state.”

After DFLers took the majority in the Minnesota House following November’s election, her colleagues elected Rep. Olson to the post of House Majority Whip. In this role, she will assist the leadership team in advocating for policies which improve the lives of Minnesotans on the House Floor, in the media, and across the state.

On top of these duties, Rep. Olson will also have a full schedule of committee assignments. She has been appointed Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over bills affecting the state budget. Additionally, she will serve on the Health and Human Services Finance Division, Long-Term Care Division, Rules and Legislative Administration Committee, and State Government Finance Division.

Issues topping the agenda this coming session for Rep. Olson include addressing the state’s opioid crisis, strengthening protections for seniors in care facilities, lowering costs and increasing access to health care, fully funding schools and expanding education opportunities – including pre-kindergarten, and strengthened economic security for families.

She encourages constituents to contact her at the Capitol with their feedback and ideas. She can be reached by phone at 651-296-4246 or email at rep.liz.olson@house.mn.
