Education Bill Leaves Duluth Students Behind

Friday, March 31, 2017

St. Paul, MN - As the Minnesota House of Representatives took up debate on the Omnibus Education Bill (HF 890), State Representative Liz Olson (DFL-Duluth) released the following statement:

“Our children deserve the brightest future possible. In Duluth we have seen huge success with investments in early childhood education, including voluntary pre-K. The bill passed off the House floor takes these investments away from our kids and further cuts an already limited amount of funding. Budgets are an opportunity to reflect values. But the budget bills passed by the majority party have shown a lack of investment in our children’s future in favor of tax breaks for corporate property owners. Our children need better than what this plan offers, and I look forward to Governor Dayton negotiating a better deal for Duluth’s students.”

Rep. Liz Olson spoke in opposition to the bill and ultimately plans to vote against this version of the legislation later today.
