Legislative Update - April 29, 2022

Saturday, April 30, 2022
Rep. Lee

Dear Neighbors,

This is a big week for our work in the Minnesota House as we pass our committee proposals. Before I get into the specifics of these proposals, I want to recognize what our community and city is currently grappling with in the wake of the official findings that the Minneapolis Police Department has repeatedly broken Minnesota’s human rights laws.

I stand with my fellow members of the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus and the Minneapolis Delegation in thanking the Human Rights Department for their thorough investigation and acknowledging that these findings are as horrific as they are unsurprising.

A spotlight continues to be on Minneapolis, not for all the things that make our city great, but for the failings of those meant to protect our neighbors. In my position, I will continue to push for the necessary reforms to implement accountability, empower marginalized communities, and repair trust with residents.

Our House Proposals

We’ve spent most of this week debating our proposals on the House floor. We have already passed our bills in the following areas that you can read more about in these links:

Today, we’ll be debating our Judiciary, Public Safety, and Higher Education proposals. Next week, we’ll be debating our proposals on Health and Human Services, Taxes, Climate, Labor, and Workforce Development.

Of the bills that have already passed, a good chunk of my legislative efforts are in the Environment bill, as I serve on that committee. This includes my proposals to take on air pollution and fight for environmental justice, investments in a new community air monitoring system and equipment, and more guardrails when it comes to toxic air emissions. You can watch my floor speech on the bill here

As Minnesotans, we care about our environment and natural resources, and we want to preserve them for current and future generations. House DFLers are committed to protecting our land, air, water, and wildlife and ensuring every Minnesotan has equitable access to the outdoors.

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Survey Survey ends May 3

In the theme of protecting our environment, I wanted to let you know Minnesota is working to become the leading state for plug-in electric vehicle (EV) use in the Midwest. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is working on a plan to invest federal funds in electric vehicle charging stations and is seeking your input. Please take this 5-minute survey to share your ideas about where to install electric vehicle chargers in our state.
