House Capital Investment Committee visits Twin Cities, completes Statewide Infrastructure Tour

Friday, November 19, 2021

St. Paul, MN - This week, the House Capital Investment Committee visited infrastructure and community resource sites throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding suburbs, completing the final leg of their statewide tour. The committee, chaired by State Representative Fue Lee (DFL - Minneapolis), will consider the projects seen this fall for possible inclusion in the 2022 Capital Investment bill.

“Our comprehensive statewide tour of Minnesota’s infrastructure needs has shown that communities throughout our state are working to build back better, but they need a robust capital investment bill from their state government to help bring these projects over the finish line,” said Rep. Lee. “The work of our committee next session will be to put together a bill that ensures all Minnesotans, no matter their zip code or background, are able to see the benefits of legislation that invests in their needs. With low interest rates, the state’s exceptional bond rating, and incoming funds from the federal infrastructure bill, now is the perfect time to step up and meet this moment to deliver for Minnesota.”

Throughout this fall, for a total of 14 days on the road, the House Capital Investment Committee visited over 80 cities, hearing hundreds of projects. The tour was broken into five regional trips, the schedules of which can be found below:

Northwest Regional Tour (Sept. 21-23)

Northeast Regional Tour (Oct. 5-7)

Southwest Regional Tour (Oct. 19-21)

Southeast Regional Tour (Nov. 9-10)

Twin Cities Regional Tour (Nov. 16-18)

Capital Investment bills - or bonding bills - fund improvements of public assets including higher education institutions, wastewater treatment plants, roads and bridges, transit, parks, trails, municipal buildings, and opportunities for economic growth within communities. The committee will begin crafting their proposal for the 2022 Capital Investment bill when the 2022 Legislative Session starts on January 31.
