House Capital Investment Committee tours projects in Northeast Minnesota

Thursday, October 7, 2021

St. Paul, MN - Today, the House Capital Investment Committee concluded its three-day tour of Northeast Minnesota, visiting cities throughout the area to see first-hand the region’s proposed projects for capital investment.

Among the projects were proposals from city governments, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, the University of Minnesota, the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, and more.

“Whether it’s assisting cities in bringing outdated infrastructure into the 21st century, or investing in the resources and institutions that will help the region flourish, our northeast bonding tour shined a spotlight on the needs of the Iron Range, the North Shore, and all the surrounding communities,” said Rep. Fue Lee, Chair of the House Capital Investment Committee. “This region and its economy were hit hard by the pandemic, and a robust bonding bill will go a long way in helping this and all corners of our state bounce back. We can’t afford to do anything less when Minnesota has the tools to meet this great need.”

This was the second tour of the House Capital Investment Committee this year, having previously visited Northwest Minnesota. When the Minnesota Legislature returns in January, it’ll be the responsibility of the committee next session to formulate the House’s Capital Investment bill, which requires a three-fifths majority to pass.
