House Capital Investment Vice Chair Lee Issues Statement on Governor’s Equity Proposal in Bonding Plan

Monday, January 13, 2020

ST. PAUL-- Today Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced the third of four packages included in their 2020 Capital Investment Proposal. The Administration’s plan includes $30 million toward capital projects requested by community organizations led by and serving Indigenous communities and communities of color. It also calls for capital budget outreach and assistance for proactively communicating about the state bonding process and support for organizations and communities receiving general obligation bonds who have not traditionally participated in the state bonding process.

House Capital Investment Committee Vice Chair Fue Lee (DFL-Minneapolis) championed equity in hiring policy changes at the Minnesota House of Representatives at the beginning of the 2019-2020 biennium. Rep. Lee released the following statement:

“I applaud Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan for listening to the concerns of our communities of color and Indigenous communities, and for the administration’s bold capital investment funding package to help promote equity and a fairer process for bonding project selection. I’ll continue to advocate for these projects and listen to our communities across the state because everyone deserves an opportunity to thrive, no matter your race or zip code.”
