Legislative Update

Thursday, October 24, 2019

Rep. Lee

Neighbors,

I hope you're staying warm! Remember that there are resources to keep Minnesotans safe during the coldest winter months. The Cold Weather Rule has taken effect, helping Minnesotans who struggle to afford their heating bill from having it shut off. Find more information on it here

Infrastructure Investments in Minnesota

The House Capital Investment Committee just wrapped up our Southeast Minnesota tour of local infrastructure projects. This was the fourth tour the committee has taken so far this fall, and the purpose of these tours is to personally visit sites and projects that are candidates for state public works funding to support clean drinking water, affordable housing, and public safety. We'll use what we learn to put together what is called a "bonding bill," when session begins in February.

Our next bonding tour will take place November 12-14 and among our stops will be the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Parks and Recreation, and Hennepin County (more details TBD).

Environment and Natural Resources Meeting

There is a joint hearing with the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee to receive an update on chronic wasting disease (CWD) efforts in Minnesota and overview on Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) on Tuesday, October 29th at 10:00am in Room 5 of the State Office Building. CWD is one of Minnesota's most pervasive and complicated environmental issues. Though we passed measures last session increasing accountability for cervid (deer) farms, increased inspection, and funding for research, we want to make sure we are addressing this issue head-on.

Let me know if you have any comments or questions! I enjoy hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Rep. Fue Lee
