Legislative Update - January 5, 2017

Thursday, January 5, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Tuesday was the first day of the 2017 Legislative Session in St. Paul. I was officially sworn in as the state representative for District 59A. I am honored and humbled by the trust of my neighbors to represent our Northside neighborhoods at the State Capitol in St. Paul.

This is an exciting opportunity to get to work on our shared priorities and I can assure you I will be working hard to push forward ideas that help all Minnesotans. For this legislative session, I will serve on the Education Innovation Policy, Government Operations & Elections Policy, and Veterans Affairs Division committees.

When we discuss issues facing our communities, there are clear areas where we have more work to do to ensure equity for all Minnesotans. We must immediately address skyrocketing health insurance premiums on the individual market, tackle the opportunity gap in our education system, reform the criminal justice system to keep families together, raise incomes and job opportunities for all Minnesotans, and make sure our economy is working for everyone.

I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find ways to address the basic needs of Minnesota families during this legislative session. Minnesotans have done so much to position our state for success, now we need to make sure this success reaches everyone.
