Dear Friends,
I am checking in with you all this week and hoping you are well. All of us are finding new ways of working and connecting and I think we may come out of this pandemic with some new creative ways of being. I am so impressed by the positive spirit I see everywhere – with our healthcare professionals, our teachers, and our service providers from all sectors.
In my home community, these folks have banded together under the slogan “ItascaStrong”!
Visit this link for local information that is providing encouragement through communication networks and real resources for us all.
Stay strong my friends or, as my four-year old grandson said at the supper table last night, “be brave”! Just as sure as our daylight is expanding, temperatures are rising, and snow is melting, we will get through this together and life will eventually return to normal. Until then, please continue to listen to the advice of health experts.
I know many of you are following my Facebook page as I am using that format to update you with notes from the Governor’s daily calls as well as other COVID-19 related resources. Below are some of the most recent resources that I hope are helpful, particularly for businesses that have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Self-Employed
I have received a lot of questions from folks that are self-employed or independent contractors looking to understand what benefits are available to them.
Benefit and relief programs are being made available to these individuals for the first time through Minnesota's Unemployment Insurance Program, however that program still needs to be set up through the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
DEED is working with the federal government to make these benefits available as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to send along information as soon as it becomes available, here’s a guide that will help you through the process when it does.
Small Business Assistance Guide
Different programs make sense for different businesses, so DEED is providing this summary guide to help small businesses quickly see which programs might be right for their situation.
These include:
For more information on any of these programs, visit the DEED website here.
Childcare Assistance
As of this week, $30 million in emergency childcare grants are available for application by eligible providers through Child Care Aware.
This funding was included in the COVID-19 bill passed last week for childcare providers prioritizing care for the children of essential workers. Applications are due April 15 with grant notifications following by April 20.
