Rep. Sandy Layman, R-Cohasset, who has been a strong advocate for the project, issued the following statement about the decision.
“The final permit for this long-awaited copper-nickel mine is great news for the Iron Range and the entire state of Minnesota,” said Layman. “This project has held up under strict environmental review, so we know it will allow us to access our state’s natural resources while also safeguarding the environment. Investments of this size in northern Minnesota don’t come around very often and this is a unique opportunity for countless good-paying jobs and significant economic development. I’m glad it has cleared the final permitting hurdle and I look forward to seeing the benefits it will provide.”
