Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force to Hold First Meeting

St. Paul, MN – The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force, established in April of 2019 by Rep. Mary Kunesh-Podein's bill, will hold its first meeting on September 19 following a ceremonial signing by Gov. Tim Walz. The task force is made up of legislators, tribal leaders, advocates, law enforcement, and legal representatives.  

Three additional meetings will take place in December 2019, March 2020, and August 2020.

Who: Task Force members, including Rep. Mary Kunesh-Podein, and special guests Governor Tim Walz; Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan; Commissioner of Public Safety John Harrington; Tribal Liaison Nigel Perrote; Independent Consultant Stephanie Autumn; and Wilder Center Senior Research Manager Nicole MartinRogers

The task force will complete a report by December 2020 that evaluates the systemic causes behind violence against Indigenous women and girls. New information will be made available here.
