Legislative Update - November 20, 2018

Tuesday, November 20, 2018

Greetings friends and neighbors,

In this week of giving thanks, I’d like to once again express my thanks and gratitude for putting your faith and hope in me to represent you in the Legislature. I am optimistic that with the new formation of our legislature and the Governor, we will start to transform and create a positive, progressive, One Minnesota.

I’d like to wish you all a joyful time of travel and family this week. I am looking forward to catching up with family that I haven’t seen in a while, moving two of my children into their first home purchase, and enjoying the abundance of delicious food. It is not lost on me how fortunate I am to have meaningful work, a warm home to return to each day, plenitude of food and access to quality medical care. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers communities such as the Hiawatha Encampment, the families who have lost their loved ones and communities in California, or our neighbors to the South who are willing to walk thousands of miles in hopes of a bright future for their children and themselves.

May you enjoy this annual celebration with your family full of laughter and peace. ?

RACIAL AND ETHNIC DIVERSITY AT THE CAPITOL

When the new class of state representatives is sworn into the Minnesota House on January 7th, there will be more Xiongs than Johnsons. Or Olsons. Or Andersons. Our statehouse will be more diverse than ever before, but still less diverse than the state as a whole. Read this MinnPost article to learn more.

FREE STATE PARK FRIDAY

Gov. Dayton has announced “Free Park Friday” in Minnesota on Friday, November 23.

Entrance fees to all of our state parks and recreation areas will be waived. Enjoy the beauty and diversity of Minnesota parks without a fee!

CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING AWARENESS

As we prepare for the colder weather, it is important to be aware of the signs, symptoms, and dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. About 500 people die annually from exposure to CO. For more information on how to stay safe, click here.

All the best,
