Minnesota House Recognizes Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Awareness Day

Tuesday, May 8, 2018

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Last Saturday, Gov. Mark Dayton proclaimed May 5th, 2018 as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Awareness Day. Members of the House of Representatives read the proclamation on the House Floor.

Representative Mary Kunesh-Podein (DFL- New Brighton) released the following statement:

“Thank you, Governor Dayton, for continuing to bring more light to missing and murdered indigenous women. We can’t bring back those who are gone, but we can take a real and honest look at the problem to find out how we can prevent more innocent native women from being taken and murdered.”

You can watch a video of the House Native American Caucus reading the proclamation here.

Rep. Kunesh-Podein is the chief author of HF 3375 which would establish a task force dedicated to reducing and ending violence against indigenous women.
