Dredging Plan for Pool 4

Thursday, July 20, 2017

Hello friends and neighbors,

I hope you are all enjoying the summer and finding time to partake in your favorite activities with your family and friends. I've just about wrapped up my post session "tour" visiting with constituent groups, school boards, and city and county leaders. Yesterday, I spoke to the Red Wing "Golden K" Kiwanis group that included a former teacher of mine and former State Rep. Lyle Mehrkens. It was fun to talk with their group about my experiences in the Legislature! Please contact me if you have a group that would like to schedule some time to meet with me.

An issue of concern this summer is the Army Corps of Engineers’ dredging plan for Pool 4 in Wabasha. I have attended meetings with the Corps, as well as with individual community members to fully understand this issue and the impact the 40 year dredging plan would have on the residents of Wabasha. I am partnering with my legislative colleagues: Rep. Drazkowski and Sen Goggin, as well as with Congressman Lewis and Senator Klobuchar's offices, to voice our concern about this plan. You can read my full reply to the Corps here.

The public comment period has been extended by 14 days, until July 28th at midnight.

I stand with the community of Wabasha in opposing this plan and I am actively seeking alternative sites for the dredged material. I'll keep you posted with what will happen next following the close of the public comment period. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or suggestions.
