RELEASE: Representative Grossell, House Republicans Unveil Public Safety Plan

Wednesday, March 2, 2022

St. Paul, MN – Representative Matt Grossell (R-Clearbrook) and House Republicans released their public safety plan on Tuesday. The proposal focused on crime prevention and accountability for criminals, police recruitment and retention and holding the criminal justice system accountable.

"With massive increases in violent crime it is clear the DFL has failed to lead the way in one of the primary obligations of our State Government: public safety," Grossell said. “Together, with other legislators, we are offering solutions to keep our citizens, neighborhoods and communities safe and protect law enforcement.”

Grossell, a retired law enforcement officer, authored and is backing several pieces of legislation as part of the package including:

  • Sentencing Guidelines Commission reporting when mandatory minimums not imposed – HF 3357
  • $2 million grant to Ramsey County Sheriff for mobile ShotSpotters in areas of the county with a high incidence of gunfire – HF 2956
  • $2.5 million set aside for reimbursement to peace officer education programs for use of force training – HF 3293
