News From Rep. Keith Franke 5-26-2017

Friday, May 26, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

This morning, we wrapped up the last of our budget bills, and adjourned until next February. The long days and nights were worth it as we came up with a compromise that I think is a victory for Minnesotans.

Coming into the legislature, I wanted to help deliver tax relief and increased funding for our roads and bridges. Our tax bill benefits working families, senior citizens, small business owners, and more. The legislation will bring about $650 million in relief, something we needed to do when the state had a surplus.

We also got a transportation bill passed that funds roads and bridges without raising the gas tax or license tab fee. This is the largest transportation bill without a gas tax or tab fee increase in the last decade.

I think a good compromise means each side isn’t 100% happy with the end results. That happened here as both parties had to give in on some of their priorities so we could get this deal done. It’s what Minnesotans expected when they sent us to St. Paul. In all, I’m proud of the bipartisan effort it took to deliver this state budget.

Though this is the last update for the legislative session, I’ll be sure to be in contact in the coming days. Now that we adjourned, I’ll be back in the district more, and hope to see you around.

Lastly, please take a second to remember and recognize the sacrifice of the men and women who died for our country. Many times, Memorial Day can be glossed over as the start of summer or another long weekend, but it’s best to not forget the incredible price paid to ensure our freedom.
