News From Rep. Keith Franke 3-10-2017

Friday, March 10, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Thanks for all your correspondence this week. We just hit our first committee deadline, and it’s important for me to have your input as we’re discussing bills and putting together our budget proposals. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have a question or want to share your opinion on any bills we’re hearing.

My Bills

Now that we have committee deadlines, I was fortunate to have a couple hearings for my bills this week. The first is my bipartisan bill to create a plan to combat HIV/AIDS in Minnesota. This legislation was heard in the Health and Human Services Reform Committee, and seemed to have a good reception from members of both parties.

I also presented a bill, HF2231, to the Property Tax Division. This bill would establish a tax increment financing (TIF) district to benefit the city of Newport. The legislation was laid over for possible inclusion in the omnibus tax bill.

Police Reserve Captain Retires

You may have seen in the news that St. Paul Park reserve captain, Chuck Maurer, is retiring from his post. Chuck has 18 years of service to his community, and will be greatly missed as a reserve officer. Congrats to Chuck on his retirement; and enjoy the extra time at the VFW or Legion!

New Council Member

Congratulations to Gregory Jahner on his appointment to the St. Paul Park City Council! It’s an honor to serve our area at any level of government, and I look forward to working with Gregory on important issues going forward.

Weekly Visitors

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Capitol this week! I met residents who came up for Catholic Day at the Capitol, representatives with South St. Paul Schools, and more.
