News From Rep. Keith Franke 1-6-2017

Friday, January 6, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

It’s official: I was sworn in this week to be the next state representative from 54A. I can’t even begin to say how humbled and grateful I am for this honor. You, my friends and neighbors in the district, are the reason I set out to serve. I hope to be voice for all of our district, not just for those who agree with me. Please, if you ever have a question or I can help you, call or email my legislative office.

Swearing-In Ceremony

On Tuesday, I took the oath of office with my fellow legislators. Prior to this week, I’d never been inside the House chambers, and it was truly breathtaking. Following the recent renovation, the entire Capitol is an amazing sight to see and something I’ll never forget.

Tax Relief On Its Way

Our state has a budget surplus which means hardworking Minnesotans have been paying too much in their taxes. On Thursday, we quickly took up a bill to conform to the federal tax code, a move that will give 220,000 residents a much-needed break on their taxes. We’ll have a larger tax relief bill in the coming months, but this is a great way to start the session.

Healthcare Reform

Also, the House tried to bring a bill forward to provide $300 million in health insurance premium relief and institute reforms to our tangled system. I voted to bring this bill to the floor, but the measure was blocked. I’m disappointed this bill stalled, but I expect we’ll discuss it as early as next week. I hope we can quickly approve this language and provide aid to Minnesota families.

Please Contact Me

Although we made great strides in the first week, there’s still lots to do. Long-term solutions to the healthcare crisis, further tax relief, and creating a balanced, responsible budget will be up for discussion as we proceed through session. I look forward to tackling these big issues, and welcome any input from residents of 54A.

Hearing from you makes me a better representative of our area. Please call, email, or visit me in St. Paul. You can reach me at rep.keith.franke@house.mn or 651-296-4342.

Have a great weekend,

Keith
