Rep. Bliss: House returns to St. Paul, starts 2022 session

Monday, January 31, 2022

ST. PAUL – Minnesota’s 2022 legislative session began Monday and Rep. Matt Bliss, R-Pennington, said tax relief is at the forefront amid a $7.7 billion state surplus.

“We have spent the last several months discussing top priorities for the new session and it’s nice to get things going at the Capitol so we can officially begin working on solutions,” Bliss said. “This year, everything seems to center on the opportunity to deliver tax relief to Minnesotans unlike anything we have ever seen. Countless proposals will be offered for how to appropriate these surplus dollars. It’s important to remember this surplus only exists because the state over-collected from taxpayers and tax relief – permanent tax relief – should be a top priority this year. Anything less would be an injustice to Minnesotans. Let’s start by ending the state tax on social security and eliminating the unemployment insurance tax increase businesses are facing if our Legislature fails to act.”

Bliss said he welcomes correspondence throughout the session and encourages District 5A residents to call (651) 296-5516 or email rep.matt.bliss@house.mn to get in touch.
