Legislative Update - May 29, 2020

Friday, May 29, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

I wanted to check in with you given how much has happened in the last five days.

First, with local businesses closed and public transit impacted, please contact my office if you need help accessing food, medications, or any other basic supplies. We will do all we can to connect you to resources and make sure folks’ basic needs are met. The best way to reach me at this time is via email at rep.jamie.becker-finn@house.mn or via text at 651-300-7646. We are here to help.

I have heard from many people regarding the killing of George Floyd. Yesterday, the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus – of which I’m a member – sent a letter to state and county leaders urging them to do everything in their power to expeditiously complete the investigation and file criminal charges against the officers responsible. We learned today that Officer Derek Chauvin was arrested and charged but much more needs to be done. My legislative colleagues and I are also working on a package of bills to be addressed at our next legislative session. I will provide further updates as I have them about the details of these bills.

Finally, there is a curfew in effect for the cities of Roseville, St. Paul, and Minneapolis tonight and Saturday night beginning at 8:00pm. The curfew in Roseville will also be in effect on Sunday night. Concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19 remain as well. Please stay safe and take care of each other in the coming days.

Sincerely,

Jamie Becker-Finn
State Representative
