Rep. Becker-Finn appointed to the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council

ST. PAUL, MN – Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL--South St. Paul) has appointed Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn to serve on the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council pursuant to Minnesota Statute 97A.056, sbd.2(d), which permits the chair of the Environment and Natural Resources and Finance Division to appoint themself or a nominee. The council provides annual funding recommendations regarding the Outdoor Heritage Fund to the legislature.

“I am honored to receive Rep. Hansen’s nomination and serve on the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council,” said Rep. Becker-Finn. “Like many Minnesotans, I grew up deer hunting, fishing, and harvesting wild rice with my family, and I know how important these traditions are to other families throughout our state.”

“I am pleased to appoint Rep. Becker-Finn to protect, restore, and enhance Minnesota's abundant natural resources,” remarked Rep. Hansen. “She has the knowledge, skills, and ability to effectively represent Minnesotans on this council. Her experience in the outdoors will bring a fresh perspective as the Legacy Amendment reaches its midpoint."

In 2008, Minnesota’s voters passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, legislation that increases the state sales tax by three-eighths of one percent. The additional sales tax revenue is distributed into four funds, with 33 percent allocated to the Outdoor Heritage Fund. These resources are intended to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands, prairies, forest and habitat for fish, game, and wildlife.

The Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council makes recommendations to the legislature to meet these constitutional objectives and ensure that they are consistent with the Constitution and state law.
