RELEASE: Inver Grove Schools Receive School Safety Grants

Tuesday, October 2, 2018

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS – Rep. Regina Barr, R-Inver Grove Heights, issued the following statement regarding news Monday that Pine Bend and Simley High School in District 199 are receiving $171,000 combined in school safety grant funding. Last session, the legislature approved and Governor Dayton signed into law $25 million in capital investment funds that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements. The Minnesota Department of Education announced the grant allocations in a news release Monday afternoon.

"The legislature coming together to put the safety of our students first was one of the things I was most proud of this past legislative session," said Rep. Barr. "I am glad to see schools in our school district taking advantage of the school safety grants the legislature made available in 2018 and I will continue to support efforts to make school safety a top priority."

District 196 schools Oak Ridge Elementary School of Leadership and Environmental and Health Studies also received $28,650 in school safety grant funding.

The legislature approved an additional $25 million in school safety grants as part of the supplemental budget bill, but those funds were vetoed by Governor Dayton.
