Legislative Update; Walz and His House of Cards

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM
REP. CAL BAHR - DISTRICT 31B

Friday, March 22nd, 2022 –

Yesterday, House Democrats rolled out their budget resolution for the 2022 legislative session. In their resolution, Democrats would add $7.36 billion to the already $51.7 billion two-year budget approved in June of 2021 – a 10% increase over the previous two-year budget period. That $51.7 billion budget fully funded the State government through June of 2023. However, this additional spending would increase Minnesota’s state budget to roughly $59 billion.

This Democrat budget resolution clearly indicates just how detached the Minnesota DFL has become. This resolution would increase spending by $7.36 billion for the largest budget in the state's history. The kicker is that the State government is already fully funded. Worse still, this money is all one-time money from taxes that the Democrats want to spend on massive projects with recurring costs.  Right now, people are watching their finances get ripped apart by inflation, and the Democrat response is to put together a bloated, thoughtless spending plan that will help no one.

The State of Minnesota also has a projected budget surplus of $9.2 billion. Additionally, State government has several cash accounts, which would increase this surplus to nearly $12 billion. We should not be increasing spending by one dime. Instead, we need to take this record surplus and Give It Back to the people by slashing state taxes and eliminating the social security tax. We need to be helping people, not spending their money against their will.

State of the State

This Sunday, Governor Walz will deliver his fourth state of the state address to the Minnesota House. Usually, the Governor holds 'The State of the State” during the week, when legislators are already at the capitol. The speech is mainly ceremonial but outlines the Governor's plan for the coming year. Instead, the Governor will deliver his speech in front of a hand-selected group. Listen to my comments below.

I, for one, will not participate in this political stunt held by the Governor, and the reason? Sunday is the Lord's day. It is not the Government's day. It is not a day of politics; it is a day of rest and reflection. While King Timothy may think of himself as ordained by God, this is just another way Walz shows his true colors. The left has made gods of themselves over the past two years casting science and reason aside in favor of unchecked tyranny.
