RELEASE: Rep. Ecklund statement on start of 2022 Legislative Session

Monday, January 31, 2022

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The 2022 Minnesota Legislative Session convened Monday at the Minnesota State Capitol. Rep. Rob Ecklund (DFL – International Falls) issued the following statement:

“After nearly two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Minnesota’s economy is recovering, but many workers, families, and communities are still struggling. This session, House DFLers will be focused on delivering the economic security Minnesotans deserve through solutions like additional pay for front line workers, paid family and medical leave, and earned sick and safe time. We should also explore targeted tax cuts for Minnesotans, including property taxes and Social Security income. As employers are looking for workers to fill open positions, our child care shortage remains a barrier, and we need to take this opportunity to support parents, children, employers, and local economies alike through new investments in child care and early learning. I’ll be working to deliver resources to expand broadband internet, as well as assistance to borderland businesses that have been hit hard by the Canadian border closure. With a $7.7 billion budget surplus, we have an opportunity to make a big help in people’s lives.”
