RELEASE: Rep. Ecklund statement on Walz’s ‘Budget for One Minnesota’

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, Governor Tim Walz announced his two-year budget plan with robust investments in education, health care, and community prosperity.

State Rep. Rob Ecklund (DFL – International Falls), chair of the House Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee, issued the following statement:

“Minnesotans in every corner of the state deserve great schools, quality health care they can afford, and the ability to find success for themselves and their families. For me, ensuring each of these is what ‘One Minnesota’ is about and I’m thrilled Governor Walz has put these at the top of his budget proposal. I look forward to partnering with him to deliver many of these items, like robust classroom funding, overdue investments in broadband, fixing our aging road and bridge infrastructure, and moving forward with new approaches to reduce the cost of health care. Increases in Local Government Aid and County Program Aid are also critical for communities to be able to deliver key services while keeping property taxes down.

“While there are many details to examine, and I’m almost certain I won’t agree with everything, this proposal is a solid starting point to keep Minnesota on the path to success and to give every community an opportunity to prosper.”
