Legislative Update - April 19, 2018

Thursday, April 19, 2018

Greetings Northlanders,

We have a little over a month left in the legislative session and omnibus finance bills are moving through committees ahead of the Friday deadline. We should begin debate on the House floor – whether on individual omnibus bills or a single omnibus package – in the days ahead. Here are some updates from the Capitol:

Omnibus Bills

With the Friday deadline coming quickly, we’ve been working in the Agriculture Finance and Environmental Committees to finish up the respective omnibus bills to send to the House floor for votes. Due to the size and scope of these bills, we’ve had some long committee meetings, but we’ll have a clearer view of where things stand by the beginning of next week.

Bonding Hearing

Another large piece of legislation I’m working to pass this session is our bonding bill. Packed with necessary infrastructure improvements for our state, passing a bonding bill is a high priority and crafting it requires hearing testimony on why each project is deserving. I’m optimistic we can craft and pass a strong bonding bill this year.

Silverware

On Wednesday, University of Minnesota-Duluth Men’s Hockey Coach Scott Sandelin brought the Bulldogs’ National Championship trophy to the House floor after a news conference with Gov. Dayton. Congratulations to Coach Sandelin, Athletic Director Josh Berlo (pictured) and the team for taking home the title.

Please feel free to reach out to me at the Capitol with any questions or concerns on legislative matters.

Sincerely,
