Legislative Update - March 14, 2018

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Greetings Northlanders,

The fast pace at the Capitol continued this week, with plenty of constituent meetings, committee hearings, and Gov. Dayton’s last State of the State address. Here’s what’s new from St. Paul:

On Wednesday, I presented one of my bills to the House Jobs Committee. HF 2853 provides funding for the Cook County Higher Education Board to provide programming and academic support services in northeastern Minnesota.

I serve on the Capital Investment Committee and, since we’ll be working to pass a bonding bill this session, we’re hearing lots of requests during our hearings.

Constituent meetings

It’s been a busy week for constituent meetings. I had the opportunity to meet with Lake County commissioners, the Silver Bay city council, a Silver Creek township supervisor, and the Cook County Chamber.

I also spoke with Cook County Higher Ed, ABATE Minnesota members from Greaney, Wood Fiber constituents, and the mayor of Ely about some bonding projects in the area.

State of the State

Gov. Dayton delivered his eighth and final State of the State address on Wednesday night. For the past seven years, he’s been a vocal advocate for Minnesota families and has always been upfront and sincere in his beliefs. I’ve appreciated the opportunity to work with him.

I had two guests at the speech: Tim Wegner from International Falls and Ely Mayor Chuck Novak!

Feel free to contact me at the Capitol regarding any legislative matters. You can reach me by email at rep.rob.ecklund@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-2190.

Sincerely,

Rob Ecklund

State Representative
