Legislative Update - February 16th, 2017

Thursday, February 16, 2017
Hello Northlanders,

It has been a busy week at the Capitol. Here is a quick update on what is going on. Wednesday afternoon I presented my bill, HF 1035, to provide more workforce training opportunities through the Cook County Higher Education Board. We need more good people to work as paramedics, medical lab techs, licensed practical nurses, as well as more trainings for workers in the restaurant and tourism industry. While this is a modest amount of funding for a program, it will provide a lot help to people and businesses in Cook County.

It was great to have Dr. Paula Sundet Wolf testify on behalf of the bill with me.

I also presented a bill on behalf of a fellow Iron Ranger, Representative Jason Mesta from Virginia. Representative Mesta’s wife just gave birth to their first child who is a 6th generation Iron Ranger. I wish him and his growing family all of the best.

Later this week I am also speaking with the Minnesota Association of Counties. As a former county commissioner I have great respect for what our county officers do. County and local government is where most people interact with government and I am very thankful for all of the work they do.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. My job is to represent you in St. Paul.

Sincerely,

Rob Ecklund
State Representative
