Dear Neighbors,
Please join me, other city and state officials along with your neighbors in a discussion about the Minnesota state budget. Myron Frans, the Commissioner of Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) is launching the “My Minnesota Tour,” and the first stop is in St. Louis Park. This tour will offer Minnesotans the opportunity to provide their ideas about what new investments the state should make. Additionally, Commissioner Frans will be on hand to provide ideas on how our state budget directly impacts local communities.
Serving as the state’s Chief Financial Officer in his role at MMB, Commissioner Frans is extremely knowledgeable about the complexities of our state budget. Serving as a close confidant to the governor on fiscal matters, it’s also important for him to hear directly from folks across the state, so I hope we can all take advantage of this opportunity to provide him some input. Another purpose of this meeting is to gain a greater understanding of not just the state budget itself, but how fostering partnerships with local governments is crucial to our shared success.
In addition to Commissioner Frans, I’ll be there with Rep. Peggy Flanagan, Sen. Ron Latz, St. Louis Park Mayor Jake Spano, and Secretary of State Steve Simon. As an added bonus, Commissioner Frans is bringing ice cream! I hope you can join us.

New Laws
With the two year budget cycle having started on July 1, many laws tied to various fiscal appropriations became effective on that date. OnAugust 1, several other wide-ranging policy provisions passed during the 2017 session will become law.
