VOGEL TAKES HOUSE OATH

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

ST. PAUL – Bob Vogel had lots of company in taking the Minnesota House of Representatives’ oath on Tuesday – and we’re not just talking about the 133 other members in the Class of 2015.

The Republican from Elko-New Market represented one of four generations of Vogels with deep area roots on hand for the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol in St. Paul. He is the third generation in his family to own New Market Bank.

“It is so humbling to stand on the floor of the House chamber and be sworn into office,” said Voegele, who represents District 20A, encompassing the western portion of LeSueur County and the southern portion of Scott. “I would not be in this position without the incredible support I received from my family along the way, so it was extra sweet to share this moment with them.”

Vogel served the Scott County Board of Commissioners from 2002-2008, chairing the panel in 2005 and 2008. He said he will draw from experience gained serving that group and stick with the same common-sense approach to issues that proved successful with it.

“There’s no question the state faces complicated issues, but it is helpful to take a step back and ask yourself how any given proposal is going to help the people in our area,” Vogel said. “How are things we do today going to make Minnesota better for the long haul? People sent me to St. Paul to make decisions based on poise and rationality. It is important to keep that in mind.”

Vogel will begin his House tenure by serving four committees: Capital Investment; Taxes; Civil Law & Data Practices; and Job Growth & Energy Affordability Policy & Finance. He can be reached at (651) 296-7065 office or by emailing rep.bob.vogel@house.mn to provide input.

Vogel has been married to his wife, Laura, for more than 40 years. They have two children and two grandchildren.
