RELEASE: Rep. Vogel Appointed to Legislative Budget Office Oversight Commission

Monday, July 9, 2018

ELKO NEW MARKET, MN – On Friday, June 29th, State Representative Bob Vogel, R- Elko New Market, was appointed to the Legislative Budget Office Oversight Commission. The Legislative Budget Office, a non-partisan office to provide legislators fiscal notes, was included in the 2017 State Government Finance Budget.

“The objective of the Legislative Budget Office is to improve accuracy by putting fiscal projections an “arm’s length” away from both the executive and legislative branches,” said Rep. Vogel. “Having an independent body will not only increase objectivity by eliminating potential conflicts of interest which now exist but also provide a more probing and unbiased indication of how much a proposal would cost taxpayers. I am honored to have been chosen to serve on the legislative commission overseeing this important new office.”

Rep. Vogel was also designated to convene the commission’s first meeting and serve as the Chair until one can be elected by the commission.

"Rep. Vogel was instrumental in creating the Legislative Budget Office, which will provide a clear picture state spending for Minnesota taxpayers," said Speaker Kurt Daudt, R- Crown. "Rep. Vogel will provide the leadership and legislative oversight that this important new tool needs to be successful."

Rep. Jim Knoblach, R- St. Cloud, was also appointed by Speaker Daudt to the Legislative Budget Office Oversight Commission.
