Warners of New Prague named a Farm Family of the Year

Thursday, August 6, 2015

ST. PAUL – The Warner family from the New Prague area was recognized Thursday as a 2015 Farm Family of the Year during the annual Farmfest event near Redwood Falls.

Randy and Cheryl Warner handle daily operations of their farm with assistance from their sons and are among 80 farm families from throughout the state receiving this recognition from the University of Minnesota.

According to a profile provided by the U of M, the Warners' current farm is home to a herd of 60 milking cows and 300 acres of corn, soybeans and alfalfa. The property has been in the family since 1978, when Randy's parents, Merle and Joan, relocated from Waterville to west of New Prague. Joan is retired and currently resides on the farm.

Randy and Cheryl have four children – Rochelle, Kayla, Austin and David. The family has been heavily involved in 4-H over the years. Randy and Cheryl are members of the Scott County Agriculture Society, Farm First Dairy Cooperative and Friedens Lutheran Church in New Prague.

"Congratulations to the Warners for earning this award and representing Scott County so well," said Rep. Bob Vogel, R-Elko-New Market. "This is a great example of a strongly connected family having positive impacts on local agriculture and doing good things for our area."
