RELEASE: Reps. Schultz and Olson welcome House Capital Investment Committee to Duluth

Tuesday, October 5, 2021

DULUTH, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee started a three-day tour of northeastern Minnesota, visiting sites – including several in Duluth – with proposed investments in regional economies. Rep. Jen Schultz (DFL – Duluth) and Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) joined the committee as they learned about proposals from colleges and universities, public safety facilities, water treatment plants, community centers, and agency offices.

“Minnesotans deserve safe, quality public infrastructure, and I’m grateful the Capital Investment Committee is visiting Duluth to see some of our community’s opportunities for investment first-hand,” Rep. Schultz said. “With low interest rates and an excellent state credit rating, lawmakers should pass a significant capital investment package during the 2022 legislative session.”

“Investments in infrastructure are investments in the long-term strength of our community, our region, and our state,” Rep. Olson said. “There are numerous projects here in Duluth and across our state worthy of public investment, and when we come together to pass a bonding bill, our investments make a big impact as we work to create and enhance opportunities for people, families, students, and our economy.”

The committee also visited Lake Superior Zoo, Spirit Mountain, the Historic Lift Bridge, and the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Science Building. While in Duluth, legislators also learned about funding proposals from Lake Superior College, the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center, and One Roof Housing.

The tour continues Wednesday and Thursday with site visits on the Iron Range and the North Shore.
