SAINT PAUL – Today, the 2021 Minnesota Legislative Session convened at the State Capitol. Rep. Jen Schultz (DFL – Duluth) and Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) took the oath of office to begin their new terms in the Minnesota House.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be back at the Capitol as we work to tackle our public health crisis and help people navigate the challenges they continue to experience,” said Rep. Olson, who serves the western portion of Duluth, as she begins her third term. “We see light at the end of the tunnel and there are reasons to be optimistic. There will still be some difficult days ahead, but I’m hopeful we can come together to ensure all Minnesotans can have a strong future empowering them to reach for their hopes and dreams.”

“I’m grateful for the trust of my Duluth neighbors for the opportunity to serve at the State Capitol,” said Rep. Schultz, who serves the eastern part of Duluth, beginning her fourth term. “As we begin a new session, we will all work to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, and ensure our health care workers, first responders, hospital staff, long-term care residents, essential workers, and all Minnesotans can be safe and healthy. We also need to help workers, businesses, and families bounce back from economic hardship.”

During the new session, Rep. Olson will serve as Deputy Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tempore. She will once again be Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, and will serve on the Commerce Finance & Policy, Workforce and Business Development Finance & Policy, Housing Finance & Policy, and Redistricting committees.

Rep. Schultz will chair the newly-created Human Services Finance & Policy Division. She will also serve on the Ways and Means, Health Finance & Policy, and Redistricting committees.

Both Duluth representatives encourage community members to contact them with input, feedback, or if they can be of assistance. Rep.
