COVID-19 Update - March 31, 2020

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

This week, Minnesota students transitioned to distance learning. There is no tutorial providing guidance on how to best teach our students during a pandemic, and this has required a great deal of work and planning. I sincerely thank educators, support staff, and parents for being committed to making this work to ensure our students can continue their studies.

Unemployment Insurance Available

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in tremendous economic hardship for Minnesotans, many of whom have found themselves displaced from their jobs due to no fault of their own. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has designated certain days for Minnesotans who are applying for Unemployment Insurance benefits for the first time based on the last digit of their social security number. With applications coming in at an unmatched pace, this will ensure displaced workers can get faster, more effective services.

Census 2020

2020 census

Tomorrow is Census Day. By now, you should have received an invitation in the mail to respond to the census. When you respond, you'll share information about where you live as of April 1, 2020.

The count is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. Counting every Minnesotan accurately is critical to ensuring our state gets our fair share of federal investments in health care, public safety, education, and billions of dollars of other important resources.

Ensuring every single Minnesotan gets counted is an enormous task, and the Census Bureau is still looking to hire census takers. In St. Louis County, people can earn between $21.50 - $24.00 per hour. For more information and to apply, click here.

Please continue to follow all precautions including frequent handwashing, and staying home unless necessary. Also feel free to contact me if I can be of any help. My email address is rep.jennifer.schultz@house.mn and phone number is 651-296-2228. I also publish updates to my Facebook page here

While the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve and present challenges, by looking out for one another, we will get through this crisis.

Sincerely,

Jen Schultz
State Representative
