SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota House approved a new Agriculture and Housing budget today. The House DFL’s budget supports Minnesota’s agriculture industries, invests in food access programs, and provides a $26 million funding increase for housing programs. The bill passed on a vote of 99 to 28.
“Our House DFL Agriculture budget values the hard work from Minnesota farmers to feed our state and the rest of the world. It also takes on challenges facing Minnesota including chronic wasting disease, pesticide use, and emerald ash borer,” said Rep. Jen Schultz (DFL – Duluth). “I’m also excited by the investments we’re making to expand housing opportunities across the state. In Duluth, many members of our community need an affordable place to call home, and this budget makes this need a priority.”
Previously, the House passed stand-alone legislation addressing the mental health crisis in farming communities, with no action yet from the Republican-controlled Senate. The Agriculture and Housing budget continues that investment by strengthening farmer mental health counseling services and the work of Farm Advocates.

The Minnesota Senate had passed their Agriculture and Housing budget earlier this week. Lawmakers from each chamber will now form a conference committee to craft consensus legislation.
