Legislative Update (April 25, 2015)

Saturday, April 25, 2015

Neighbors,

It is an honor to represent your interests as we begin to discuss budgets to fulfill our state’s education, job growth, transportation, health and human service, and other needs.

As a part of the Job Growth and Energy Affordability omnibus bill, at the request of Olmsted County I authored an amendment to put future levy dollars within the control of the Olmsted County Board to ensure accountability to our county taxpayer dollars on housing and redevelopment. My amendment passed as a part of the omnibus bill.

We will be hearing our Health and Human Services omnibus bill soon on the House floor. I have proposed HF1936 to audit MinnesotaCare in order to find savings. Having an independent resource to verify eligibility of MinnesotaCare enrollees will help us be able to provide care to those who need assistance while continuing to ensure that state resources are being used wisely. The predicted fiscal savings on this bill amount to over $140 million of your taxpayer money.

Thank you to high school page Hannah for visiting the Capitol this past week! It is great to see how involved our young people are in the political process. Hannah had great questions, and I appreciated meeting with her. If you have a high school sophomore that may be interested in the High School Page Program next year, watch this link for updates and application details.

Please continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts and concerns on any matter before the House. You can reach me via phone at (651) 296-2208, or via email at rep.nels.pierson@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Nels
