ST. PAUL – State Rep. Nels Pierson, R-Rochester, issued the following statement regarding Thursday’s report from Minnesota Management & Budget indicating that Minnesota has a $1.3 billion budget surplus projected for 2020-21:
“Today’s report from MMB should squash any talk of raising taxes during the 2020 legislative session and place the focus squarely on identifying areas where we can provide tax relief for Minnesotans,” Pierson said. “For starters, we could save Minnesotans $875 million by repealing the tax on health care the governor and House Democrats insisted on extending last session. People in St. Paul keep talking about how we need to get a grip on high health care costs, so let’s walk the walk. The need is there, the funds are there, and it really should be a slam dunk.”
