Legislative Update (March 31, 2017)

Friday, March 31, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Tax Relief

The big news from this week was the passage of our plan to provide $1.35 billion in tax relief aimed at middle class Minnesotans. I voted for this bill, and was happy to see it pass with bipartisan support. We have a number of important provisions to help residents in every corner of the state.  Farmers, seniors, recent college grads, and small business owners will see overdue tax relief if our bill is signed into law.

I was thrilled to have my bill included which helps provide tax relief for those who are just starting out in the farming business. Growing up on a farm, I know how expensive this profession can be, especially with start-up costs. We know how important agriculture is to our area and our state, and I believe this is an important way to incentivize farming in Minnesota.

Agriculture Bills

I serve on both agriculture committees at the House, and we’ll be discussing our budget bill in the coming days. I’ve heard from farmers in our area and throughout the state, and look forward to advocating on their behalf as we discuss this bill.
