RELEASE: Rep. Roz Peterson Applauds Mental Health Grants for Local Schools

Tuesday, October 23, 2018

LAKEVILLE, MN – The Minnesota Department of Human Services recently announced that it is awarding $33 million in school-linked mental health grants over three years to fifty-seven mental health providers across the state. This funding will bring mental health services to more than half of Minnesota schools including schools in Lakeville, Burnsville and Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school districts. The funding will help with assessment, treatment and care coordination, teacher consultation, and school-wide trainings.

It is great to see that schools in our area will benefit from increased mental health services,” said Rep. Roz Peterson, R-Lakeville. “Addressing student mental health and helping children who are struggling are priorities at the Capitol, and these mental health grants are an integral part of solutions to these issues. I am proud to advocate for our students and schools, and will continue to support measures to address student mental health and provide every student with a great education and opportunities to succeed.

Since 2015, House Republicans have more than doubled the funding for school-linked mental health grants from $5 million to $11 million annually. They also supported an additional $5 million annually as part of a comprehensive schools safety package that was vetoed by the governor earlier this year.
